It was a small magazine like a readers digest size, and printed on the cheapest paper, with loads of adverts in the back (long before the net and Ebay), it invited articles from readers, I might have had an article or two in it myself.Ĭonsider it a lesson learned, the young bloke next to me did the same on a DZR400, he had only ever had 2 strokes before and didn't know about 'oil'. there was a magazine dedicated to it, the 'Used Bike Guide'. 'Biking on the Dole' was pretty much a lifestyle back in the 80's and 90's. You want a photo of the Honda or the new one? I don't really want to show the new one off here as it's Chinese and I know your all gonna say it's terrible, but you don't know the meaning of terrible until you see my bank balance □ Get a pro to do this if you have little mechanical experience, it won't be expensive. They had basically become one with the casing. I had to grind the heads off of the bolts to get the engine out and then run a pillar drill through the actual engine casing to drill the body of the bolts out. Dropping the engine isn't actually all that difficult compared to other bikes but you will likely have a problem with the front mounting bolts being seized into the engine casing. Get yourself a Haynes manual, they are actually quite detailed for the CG. You might need the carb as well for the earlier models as the W and M1 models are different. You will likely be able to fit an engine from an earlier model as long as it's a CDI model (1993 onwards IIRC). The engine mounts look similar in the later models also but I'd have to do some digging to be sure. The W model from 98-00 is much the same but doesn't have the electric start. It'll probably be an M1 model, 2001-2003. You can then sell the rest on eBay for spares. You might be easier buying a complete bike to rob the engine from. Last edited by Liber on 10:46 - edited 2 times in total Does that mean I'll only have the Kickstarter? Again, I don't care as long as it works. So yeah ultimately I guess it sounds like the engine I found should fit as it's CDI. I just grabbed the manual for a flick through it says CG125M. I don't have the means to pick up a non runner and bring it home to salvage as I only just got my CBT. The bike is a 51plate, and the replacement engine I found on eBay was a CDI engine so from what you peeps are saying that should work on mine? All I'm bothered about is getting it up and running again. (He has dismounted the engine when atteyto repair but found the interior parts stuck together) I'm sure he will assist putting the new engine on. I do have a mechanical assistance from family friend but I can't expect him to do everything. ![]() Thanks for all your replies, so first of all, yes I managed to read the dipstick wrong. ![]() Or is there another company that does engines that fit? All I care about is being able to get to work asap.įirst post so sorry if this doesn't adhere to the rules, So I'm looking for a cg125 engine, also need to know if my bike would work with both earlier and older models, I assume it would but I'm not sure. Clearly, I couldn't even read the oil measure correctly. So my concern is even if I find a working engine there are different years to the same bike. I have looked everywhere and the only spare cg125 engine I can find is on eBay but the guy won't respond to messages. Now my engine is dead, and I'm broke and was going to use the bike to get to work. I'm new to being on the road, had my cg125 3 months, turns out I am an idiot and although I checked the oil I didn't realize it was empty.
